Vernissage & Diploma Ceremony

Diploma Exhibition of the Weaving Programme at Zürcher Stalder AG

On Sunday, 31 August 2025 at 2 pm, we will celebrate the graduates of our modular weaving programme at the Kulturort Garnlager and we warmly invite you to join us!

Over the course of nine hands-on modules, the participants have mastered the art of weaving: from warping the loom and learning about weave structures to exploring colour, materials, and their own designs. The programme concludes with two independent projects. From 31 August to 12 October 2025, the resulting diploma works will be on display at the Kulturort Garnlager. Twelve graduates present their unique, handwoven pieces, each one a one-of-a-kind creation, uniting technique, design, and personal expression.

Embroidery for Peace 2025

“Praised be You, my Lord, through our Mother Earth,
who sustains and governs us,
and who produces varied fruits with coloured flowers and herbs.”

~ Excerpt from the Canticle of the Sun by Francis of Assisi

This year’s theme:

Brother Sun, Sister Moon, and Mother Earth

Exactly 800 years ago, Francis of Assisi wrote the “Canticle of the Sun” – a poetic hymn of creation, a prayer filled with gratitude and peace. Let yourself be inspired and create your own textile artwork that expresses a deep connection with nature, the beauty of life, and the desire for peace.

Just as Francis included “Brother Sun” and “Sister Moon” in his poetry, incorporate colours, patterns, and textures into your embroidery to create a vibrant symbol of harmony. Each stitch becomes an act of mindfulness, each motif a sign of hope. Join us in setting a creative sign for world peace!

What does the “Canticle of the Sun” mean to you? What images and thoughts arise in your mind? Bring your ideas to life through embroidery!

Tip from artist Ingrid Eggimann-Jonsson:
Shimmer & Shine: Metallic Thread and Sparkling Beads

Let your embroidery shine! Enhance your artwork with metallic effect threads and shimmering beads for a special brilliance. Add sparkling accents and see how glow and shimmer bring your embroidery to life. Give it a try!

A Design for Inspiration and Guidance

Once again, this year, Ingrid Eggimann-Jonsson has created a design for the theme. You can use it as guidance and inspiration for your embroidery. Simply download and print it directly here.

The design is especially helpful for beginners but primarily serves as inspiration. You are welcome to develop your own ideas or modify the design as you like. The original design is approximately 22 cm high and 35 cm wide, but you can adjust the size of your embroidery as needed.

Transferring a design onto light fabric: Tape the printed design in the desired size to a window. Place the fabric over it and carefully trace the design onto the fabric with a pencil.

Transferring a design onto dark fabric: Use tailor’s carbon paper that transfers white on the underside. Place the carbon paper face down on the fabric and the design on top. Fix everything well to prevent shifting. Trace the lines with a hard pen and, if needed, go over them with a white fabric marker.

We look forward to your participation!

You can send us your piece in the fall for the exhibition. Embroideries from abroad are very welcome!

The exhibition of the completed peace embroideries will take place from October 26 – November 16, 2025 at the Kulturort Garnlager. You are warmly invited to the opening event on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at 2:00 PM!
